Folding rotary clothesline

How to fold down a wall-mounted clothesline (step-by-step)

Step 1: Clear the lines

Remove all washing and pegs, as weight left on the frame can strain or warp the hinges.

Step 2: Stand in front of the clothesline

Stay centred so you can fold the frame down in a controlled way.

Step 3: Release the locking mechanism

Depending on your model, this will be either:

Side latch clips, or
Push-button releases at the ends of the frame.

Press or lift the release on both sides.

Step 4: Support the frame as it lowers

Hold the front bar and guide it downward slowly.

Step 5: Fold the frame against the wall

It should rest flat and secure. For dual-frame models, fold the large frame down first, then the smaller inner frame.

How to fold up a wall-mounted clothesline

To raise the line again:

Stand centred in front of the clothesline.
Lift the frame upward until both sides click securely into place.
Make sure it’s fully locked before adding laundry.

How to fold down a folding rotary clothesline

Modern rotary clotheslines can fold down too, which is ideal if you want to free up lawn space or protect your line during bad weather.

Folding rotary models (collapsible arms)

These have arms that fold downward towards the central post.

How to fold them down:

Clear all laundry and pegs.
Locate the hub-release mechanism at the top of the post. It may be a button, clip, or twist collar.
Support the arms with one hand.
Activate the release while guiding the arms downward.
Use the included strap or clip to secure the folded arms.

Removable rotary models

Some rotary units are designed to be completely removed:

Fold the arms down using the method above.
Lift the rotary head out of the ground socket.
Store it under cover when not in use.

Fixed rotary models

Some of the larger or more traditional rotary models are fixed and do not fold down, though they may allow slight height adjustment or line tensioning.

Inspect the latches for rust, dirt, or spider webs blocking movement.
